Have you ever recieved any popular stories alleged to be true and and had you worried we'll thats called an Urban legend. some people ask wat is an Urban legend.

Urban legends are popular stories alleged to be true which spread from person to person via oral or written communication (e.g., fax or email). Typically, said stories concern outlandish, humiliating, humorous, terrifying, or supernatural events, which, in the telling, always happened to someone else.

As to the origin of urban legends no one really knows where the whole "happened to a friend of a friend" story really originates. Most likely they have been told in some form since the dawn of civilization, many have evolved over time, been given more modern twists. Likely most of them originated as morality tales, or tales to scare children and teenagers away from reckless or unsafe behavior by letting them know "This could happen to you. They really took off during the 20th century- particularly following the Jack the Ripper murders (in England) and the Ed Gein case (in the US) - people suddenly realized that in some cases the murderer could be the guy next door. Children started to tell each other wildly speculative stories about sadistic and cannibalistic murderers - these were popularly known as "Geiners". The advent of the modern teen horror movie (using realistic as opposed to fantastic elements- i.e. an axe murderer rather than a vampire or zombie) helped the popularity along, particularly amongst young people. It’s uncertain when the term "urban legend" was first used, but it was made popular in scholarly circles by Professor Jan Harold Brunvand- a notorious expert in the phenomenon. He's a huge presence on the web and has written several books on the subject, as well as being a regular in the FORTRAN Times. According to lady fuschia from www.answerbag.com

My first urban legend that I have research is true and it’s titled phony guns and this one is about guns that police found that appeared to be cell phones but were disguised and were really guns. Police found these guns when they were active in a drug raid in Amsterdam the Croatian drug dealer was caught trying to get a shipment through Slovenia into Western Europe the cell phones never hit America yet have been briefing everyone about them and to look out for them. These guns are disguised as cell phones but beneath the face lay a .22 caliber pistol that is capable of firing four rounds in quick succession. This means police will have to draw their weapons whenever a person being checked reaches for their mobile phone. Police say both shipments are believed to have originated in Yugoslavia. Interpol sent out a warning to law enforcement agencies around the world. European border police and customs officers are at a heightened state of alert at all ports, airports and border crossings.

My next urban legend is about Tommy Hilfiger the legend is that the creator of this line said that is he knew that Blacks and Asians were going to wear his clothing line he would have never made it. But this legend comes out to be false. The origin of this rumor that Tommy Hilfiger made a racist remark exploded onto the Internet in the fall of 1996 after a news article saying that this was to be from a Philippines tabloid began making this information available online. These self-same rumors had been in the people latest news at least nine months earlier, but the appearance of this article brought them to critical mass according to Cristina Peczon (author of the article), the revealing remark happened on CNN Style with Elsa Klensch but it is also said to be aired on the oprah show which Tommy denied ever being on, during an interview with both Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren on the latest fashion trends.

The last urban legend that I thought was interesting was about Chinese food restaurants in U.S. were claimed to be selling off cats and rats in Chinese food entrees. This was false the origin originated with a rumor about Fluffy's or Fido's being slipped into Chinese food by unscrupulous restaurateurs has been traced by British researchers to the earliest years of the British Empire in England and to the 1850s in the United States. I think that rumors like this totally destroys any Chinese food restaurants business cause no one wants to eat there after hearing something like that.

I have recieved messages like this and most people have but dont believe everything you hear do a little research cause there are alot of different stories out there some true and some false.

1.Katie Couric
2.Adnan Hajj
3. digital composite of a British soldier in Basra
4.George W. Bush,
5.O.J. Simpson

the one i wanna talk is the one about goerge bush. If they edit what the leader of our state is doing they well edit anything. And if they edit stuff like little notes that he writes how do we kno whats real and whats fake. so we should limit the editing and keep alot of thing realistic so we dnt have to fear the media and the thing will and do the the outside people meaning the people who is not in the editing circle.

Media impact on life

The impact i think media has on every day or life peroid is mostly negative for many reasons. the first reason i think that media has a negative impact is that when i turn on the news station any of them it always bad. The only things you hear about is criminal acts of some sort it ranges from murders to bad business practices.

My second statement on why i think the media is mostly negative is because they more so portrai negatives then positives and an example of this detroit. Detroit is not all bad yes there is crime but there crime every where. And the media just potrais as if its one of the worst places to go or be and i dnt think thats true but thats a state of opinion but people cant form there on opinion becauses the media forms one for them. But this is not only with detroit or cities this is with alot more things and/or places.

All in all I think that the media has a mostly negative impact on life

key concept # 1

My opinion on key concept number 1 is that it is o so true key concept one is that all media messages are constructed9have a story). Becauase watever u hear or see has a story behind it or has a purpose of there if not it wouldnt make no since of making it correct. so when u look in a magazine and see a lady with long silky hair thats undamaged and o so perfect she modeling for the company which name is going to some where on that page for example it might be pantene. And the message that pantene is trying to send is that if you use there product your hair could be just like the "perfect" user of the product right in front of then u get to thinking i want my hair like this and go buy the product.

Super bowl ads

Super bowl ads:

My opinion on the super bowl ads is really simple think that the american people spends alot of unesssary money on the ads and i also think that the money that is being spent on these can be targeted differently and every business is out for there own no matter who it hurts or who it hurt just like the cigerett and beer commercials they know people are people killed every day or harming other or them selves by either drunk driving or sumthin in that every day but yet dnt take the time out and say hey whats most important the lives that jeopardize and take or money but 9 out of ten would take the money but there good commercials also that tried to promote the buying of a new car and thats good cause the automobile industry is down right now and they got get money before there business goes under so that's a good investment right there

killin us softly and tough guise comparison

KILLin Us Softly

I think that killin them softly was an informational video that point out alot of good arguments but i think that she was lookin deep I thought that the video presentation Killing Us Softly was fairly effective in sending its purpose. jean the speaker of this production used many effective strategies to capture her audience’s attention. She used many successfully placed signposts to signify her transitions. She included many visuals in her presentation that added a helpful visuals to the audience. All of these combined aspects of her speech caused the viewer to really consider his/her attitude on women in advertising. Most people, after watching Killing Us Softly 3, would have to seriously think on how women should really be portrayed in our society, whether they agree with the speaker or not.The first thing that makes this video so effective is the proficient use of language to help guide the audience though the speech. The speaker used many deliberate pauses throughout her speech to signify important information or to allow something to sink in. For example, she paused during certain ads and photos to allow the implications provided to have a little time to really be understood. She also made little jokes or comments on how if the men were in place of the women would have been.

In comparison to Tough Guise I felt as though the movieTough Guise was well-developed, using interesting and effective examples to make its main argument about masculinity and violence. All of the ideas that were presented were supported and provided good insight into the ideas of masculinity that our society has constructed for us. Despite these strengths I felt that the movie oversimplified the concept of masculinity by just discussing toxic traits. In regards to this article, I felt that the authors did a good job of presenting the arguments for and against hegemonic masculinity, providing a comprehensive overview of the issue.
